Programming policy
WE PRIDE OURSELVES ON HOW APPROACHABLE WE ARE, so just drop us an email and let’s start chatting. If you want to be programmed get in touch with our Artistic Director, Ali, and he’ll get back to you as soon as he can. If you still haven’t had a reply within a week give him a cheeky nudge email.

Website peopleWe are interested in programming new and original work across the performing arts, however if you’ve got an idea that doesn’t quite sit in that section get in contact and sell it to us! WE DO NOT PROGRAMME AMATEUR DRAMATICS - it has an essential position in the ecology of performing arts but unfortunately that position is not with us.

We are ultimately interested in creating relationships with artists and companies; we don’t really fancy being a one night stand, as we prefer to build a community and a network. Alphabetti can only offer artists a box office split but it is always weighted in the artist’s favour. Ticket prices are usually kept below £10 . Due to Alphabetti’s size we are unable to offer guarantees.

So to sum up, just get in touch the kettle’s always on! Contact Ali at

When we are up and running in our new venue we will be able to offer artists and companies residency space. We offer companies up to five day residencies in our venue. This is an unfunded stream of Alphabetti, so in return to cover the costs we ask the residency company to produce an event; this can be a show back of the developed work, a disco, a quiz, a scratch night…anything! As long as it gets punters through the door and drinking at our bar! Alphabetti also want first refusal for Newcastle venues on the project developed during the residency.

To apply for a residency get in touch with our Artistic Director, Ali, at .

Website maryThe 24 Hour Theatre Challenge
In an age when running a theatre company is mainly compiled of pitching and paperwork, this is an event that allows the artist to simply create under tight time-frames! It’s almost a mini-residency with a show back at the end. How does it work? A company gets picked, they arrive, they are supplied with caffeine and some stimulus...and then they have 24 hours to create something! Alphabetti doesn’t know what they’ll perform and neither do they! It’s all very exciting! There are no constraints, it is just a chance to play, develop and experiment. For the audience it’s Pay What You Feel at the end which all goes to the artist or company.
To take part in the challenge please get in touch with our Artistic Director, Ali, at and please give examples of your companies work.

ben websiteWriters Opportunity 1
At it's heart, Alphabetti is a new writing company. Alphabetti’s Literary manager, Ben Dickenson, curates a regular script-in-hand performance night called WriteBack. It’s an opportunity for theatre writers and directors to collaborate on a new piece of theatre and present it in a script-in-hand performance. It’s essentially a scratch night for writers; we encourage writers to invite producers, literary managers and programmers from all around to see the work.
All writers are welcomed and encouraged to send up to 15 pages of script to Ben. Please also include a line or two in your email about why you would like it to be performed at WriteBack. Please do bear with Ben as he is only part time with us and his eyes can only read so fast!
If Ben thinks your script will work at WriteBack he’ll be in touch with where to go from there.
This is how it usually works:
- The pieces for that month are picked
- Over a chat, read through and cup of tea with all the writers and directors for that month wonderful new partnerships are formed.
- Alphabetti give these partnerships access to rehearsal space and dramaturgical support.

WriteBack is an evening for writers and audiences to see their scripts up on a stage.

Writers Opportunity 2
Alphabetti commission a 10 - 15 minute complete play for two performers for Alphabetti Soup which runs almost every month. This is an unpaid commission and the writers are usually picked from people who the company have worked with from WriteBack.

Acoustic Acts, Poets & Comedians
We have a lush variety night almost every month  - Alphabetti Soup - where artists can come do a 10 - 15 minute set. Each night features a bit of theatre (above), some music (any genre!), some poetry and a comedian.

Alphabetti runs the odd gig here and there but we tend to work with tried and tested promoters and very very rarely do outside hires and we will put you in touch with the correct promoter for your genre.
